VA signs $16M contract with Watson to study PTSD

The Department of Veterans Affairs has signed a $16 million contract with IBM to employ Watson to study post-traumatic stress disorder, according to a report from The Washington Post.

Watson will study the efficacy of various PTSD treatments. From the findings, the VA hopes to create better guidelines for managing PTSD patients, according to the report.

For IBM's year-old Watson Group, this is another of many similar contracts with several health systems seeking to find best practices for treatment of various diseases. The federal partnership has IBM hoping other federal customers will sign on to the supercomputer analytics service, according to the report.

The initial contract will last two years.
