The University of Virginia Center for Telehealth in Charlottesville has received the 2014 Governor's Technology Award for the center's work in expanding care access across the state.
"Through our secure telemedicine network and partnerships with care providers across the Commonwealth, we have been able to save lives, reduce unnecessary travel for medical care and bring high-quality specialty care closer to where our patients live," said Karen Rheuban, MD, director of the UVA Center for Telehealth.
The telemedicine center currently works with 128 care sites throughout Virginia and has facilitated more than 40,000 patient encounters.
