University Hospitals in Cleveland has notified 7,100 patients of a data breach following the theft of a computer hard drive containing physician office data, according to a report in The Plain Dealer.
The hard drive had been with a third-party vendor that was assisting the hospital in upgrading its computer systems, and was stolen from one of the vendor's employee's car, according to the report.
The hard drive, which had not yet been encrypted, contained data from 19 physician offices. A UH spokesperson said the health system did not believe patient data had been improperly accessed, according to the report.
