UMass Memorial Employees' Pay Stub Data Exposed for 5 Months in Computer Access Breach

Personal pay stub data of some UMass Memorial Healthcare employees was exposed to unauthorized access for five months during a computer access breach, according to a Telegram & Gazette report.

UMass Memorial learned on March 10 that users at kiosks and shared workstations could view pay stub information of previous users, according to the report. The health system removed the kiosks from use and applied a system-wide software change to disable the setting that allowed the access.

The potentially exposed personal information included names, bank names, bank transit numbers and bank account numbers but not Social Security numbers or medical records. Only those employees who accessed the organization's HRConnect application between Oct. 7 and March 11 could have been affected by the breach.

While the health system does not believe any employee information was misused, UMass Memorial is notifying all potentially affected employees of the incident and offering reimbursement of the costs to institute a security freeze.
