UCSF, CloudMedx partner to improve automated clinical documentation

University of California, San Francisco is joining forces with CloudMedx to automate its clinical documentation process for spine, hip and knee replacement procedures.

CloudMedx offers an artificial intelligence-powered clinical assistant that will assist providers process and analyze charts. The solution will receive data on surgical notes and chart encounters and automatically perform analysis, identifying codes and conditions from the unstructured and structured data.

Additionally, it will identify opportunities where documentation can be improved. UCSF will use the solution within its orthopedics department.

"For complex surgeries, there can be a huge variability in documentation and coding and this requires coders to have a great deal of knowledge of anatomy and regulations associated with a specific subspecialty," said Richard Capra, chief administrative officer of UCSF's orthopedics department. "With CloudMedx, we are looking to automate parts of this process and improve communication between all stakeholders so that this process is streamlined and made efficient."
