U of South Carolina, Siemens Healthineers launch innovation center

The University of South Carolina in Columbia opened its new Innovation Think Tank Lab as part of its collaboration with Siemens Healthineers to address health IT issues.

The lab will serve as a gathering space for the university's researchers, faculty and staff to develop inventions and methods that address issues in healthcare, artificial intelligence, robotics and IT.

"The ITT Lab will allow us to bring people together from a variety of disciplines to share their unique perspectives, which will stimulate innovation and help great ideas become reality," Dilek Akgun, the lab's operations director, said in a news release.

University of South Carolina's medical school has previously partnered with Siemens Healthineers on developing clinical innovations in areas including pediatrics, cardiovascular care and neuroscience.
