CMS has paid out more than $20 billion in electronic health record incentive payments since the program's inception in 2011, according to recently released data from CMS.
More than $13.8 billion of the incentive payment total has gone to hospitals. As of January, 4,477 hospitals have received an incentive payment. Just one hospital has received a payment in 2014 as of the end of January.
Medicare-eligible professionals have received $4.2 billion through January, and Medicaid-eligible professionals have received $2.6 billion.
