Token gesture: Blockchain app rewards patients for keeping appointments

Startup Healthereum has created a blockchain-based mobile app that rewards patients with digital tokens for showing up to their appointments, according to news blog The Merkle.

The app Healthereum Life Portfolio, or HELIO, is available for Android and iOS devices. Through the app, patients "promise to show" for a scheduled visit and get rewarded with digital tokens for following through. Physicians also can use the app to identify which patients have promised to show. If a patient does not attend the scheduled visit, the digital token is taken back.

Patients also can get digital tokens for completing healthcare surveys and task messages from their physicians. The app also allows users to view current diagnoses and medical billing.

Healthereum was founded by physicians and software engineers.
