Baltimore-based LifeBridge Health and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield named six digital health startups as finalists in the companies' first-ever joint innovation challenge.
The six companies will compete for a $50,000 prize, which will support the winning company's research and product development. All products are required to include a digital component designed to support decision making, such as mobile applications, sensors, wearable devices and data analytics and tools.
Here are the six finalists and their projects:
1. Docket: Aims to expand consumer access to immunization records by using QR codes.
2. Kermit: Focuses on reducing care costs and improving patient care with real-time data on implantable medical device transactions.
3. Nest Collaborative: Will expand access to payer-reimbursed "telelactation" support to improve maternal-child health.
4. Pilleve: Developed a smartphone app that aims to help prevent opioid misuse by monitoring a person's drug intake.
5. Rubitection: Aims to develop a system that supports early detection and intervention of bedsores.
6. Socially Determined: Researching social determinants of health and implements community-based intervention programs.
The winner of the competition will be determined June 5.
