Edward Marx, senior vice president and CIO of Texas Health Resources in Arlington, has been named the 2013 John E. Gall Jr. CIO of the Year.
The award, sponsored by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and HIMSS, is given to health IT executives who have both shown innovative leadership through the effective use of technology and who have made significant contributions to their organization.
Mr. Marx has been a healthcare CIO for 16 years. In the seven years he has spent with Texas Health Resources he has helped all the system's hospitals reach either HIMSS Analytics stage 6 or 7, and has led his organization to win the 2013 HIMSS Enterprise Davis Award. In 2012, he was awarded CHIME StateNet's State Advocacy Award for his work to advance health IT adoption in Texas.
"[Mr. Marx's] renowned career as a healthcare CIO and his record of progressive IT utilization will be valued far into the future," said CHIME President and CEO Russell P. Branzell in a news release. "Ed’s unique leadership style and approach to IT management, combined with his commitment to supporting the value of healthcare IT and promoting its effectiveness as a strategic asset, make him a worthy recipient of this prestigious award."
