Tennessee House Rep. Karen Camper has introduced a bill that would require health insurance to cover telemedicine services, but it has been stalled in subcommittees, according to a Nashville Business Journal report.
Rep. Camper's bill would also prohibit certain insurers, non-profit health service plans and health maintenance organizations from excluding coverage of healthcare services because it is provided through telemedicine.
In her introduction of the bill, Rep. Camper argued that telemedicine initiatives can help close the disparity gap in healthcare for minorities and reduce overall healthcare costs for consumers and the government.
While telemedicine legislation has stalled in Tennessee, neighboring states such as Mississippi have passed and enacted similar legislation, according to the report.
