Sutter Health collaborates with Google Cloud-powered Augmedix

Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health is teaming up with Augmedix, a documentation tool that now runs on the Google Cloud Platform, the health system announced March 6.

Augmedix helps ease physicians' charting burdens with its real-time, quality-controlled and customized remote scribes available through Glass Enterprise Edition. Sutter said that since it implemented Augmedix in a pilot program in 2014, physician notes have been more accurate, productivity has been enhanced and physician burnout has been reduced. More than 100 Sutter physicians are using Augmedix and Glass in family and internal medicine, dermatology, podiatry, orthopedics, surgical oncology and cardiology care.

Now that Augmedix is hosted on Google Cloud, Sutter is planning to add a machine learning tool to help physicians prioritize emails and messages from patients. Other plans include implementing Google Cloud-powered artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions to enhanced transcribing services.

"Our work on [the Google Cloud Platform] has been accelerating as we continue to advance our capabilities using Google Cloud machine learning [application programming interfaces] and core HIPAA-secure cloud infrastructure services," said Ian Shakil, cofounder and CEO of Augmedix. "As our largest deployment, Sutter represents an at-scale example of what's possible when you bring together a technology-enabled documentation service for health systems and the power of the cloud."
