To meet meaningful use stage 2, at least 5 percent of a provider's patients must interact with the provider's patient portal. However, a new survey from TechnologyAdvice reveals many patients may not know a patient portal is available.
About 40 percent of the 430 patients surveyed are unsure if their primary care physician offers a patient portal. Just under half remember being shown a patient portal either during or outside a visit.
"It appears many physicians are not doing enough to educate patients about their portals and provide incentives for their use," said TechnologyAdvice editorial coordinator and study author Cameron Graham.
