More than three-quarters of job-seeking nurses say the reputation of a hospital's EHR system is one of their top three considerations when deciding where to work, according to a survey from Black Book Market Research.
"EHRs have become an advantage for some hospitals in attracting top nursing talent, but in many cases a poorly implemented EHR with chaotic processes and bungling IT support is becoming a detriment to hospital nurse retention and recruitment," said Doug Brown, managing partner of Black Book Market Research.
In addition to the in-house deployment and support, many nurses also consider the EHR vendor's reputation. Nurses in the 22 largest U.S. metro areas view EHRs from Cerner, McKesson, NextGen and Epic as the most usable and nurse-friendly. Nurses are least satisfied with EHRs from Meditech, Allscripts, eClinicalWorks and HCare, according to the survey.
