More than half of accountable care organizations currently employ remote patient monitoring technology, though the majority question its effectiveness, according to a survey conducted by Spyglass Consulting.
The ACOs that reported using RPM do so to help reduce readmissions and avoid Medicare penalties, help with chronic disease management and encourage patients to take a more active role in their health.
However, 71 percent of respondents reported concern about integrating RPM technology with existing clinical systems and processes, including electronic health record systems. Additionally, 58 percent said the currently available RPM technology does not have adequate clinical analytics and decision support tools.
