Surescripts, a health information network focused on e-prescriptions, conducted more than 10.9 billion transactions in 2016, up 12 percent the year prior, according to a company report.
The report, titled "2016 National Progress Report," details trends from the company's network, which comprises 64 percent of prescribers and 98 percent of retail pharmacies.
Here are four things to know.
- The company connected 1.3 million healthcare professionals with patient data for 230 million Americans in 2016.
- Surescripts conducted roughly 1.6 billion e-prescriptions, 1.08 billion medication histories and 2.2 million patient care summary transactions in 2016.
- The company delivered 45.34 million prescriptions for controlled substances in 2016, up 256 percent from 2015.
- Surescripts attributed the significant increase in controlled substance prescriptions to changes in state legislation.
