Pediatricians have adopted electronic health records more slowly than other specialties, according to a study in Pediatrics.
Researchers surveyed 646 members of the American Academy of Pediatrics between February and July 2009 on their EHR adoption.
Results showed that 6 percent of those surveyed had a fully functional EHR system, and only 3 percent were using a system that supported pediatric-specific metrics (weight-based prescribing, immunization tracking, etc.). According to HHS, more than 50 percent of all physicians have reached meaningful use of their EHR systems.
