Using electronic health record systems to report vaccinations to immunization registries increases submission compliance, according to a study in Applied Clinical Informatics.
Researchers analyzed 1.7 million de-identified patient records submitted to the New York Citywide Immunization registry, examining reporting trends before and after the implementation of an EHR system at the 217 reporting practices.
After EHR implementation, record submission within two days of immunization increased from 60 percent to 77 percent, and median lag time decreased from 13 to 10 days, showing significant improvements in submission compliance.
