Just 17 percent of assisted-living facilities in the U.S. used electronic health records in 2012, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The facilities with EHRs tended to be larger, nonprofit and not in a metropolitan area, and also were more likely to be part of a chain and co-located with another care facility.
Additionally, 40 percent of facilities with EHRs had the ability to exchange health information with other healthcare providers and pharmacies.
