About 12.3 percent of adults have withheld medical information from providers over concern of a data breach, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association.
Additionally, the likelihood of withheld information was higher when patients felt a lack of control over how their medical records would be used. The highest levels of concern came over health data being transferred by fax or electronically.
The study used survey results from the Health Information National Trends Survey.
