Despite recent reshuffling of federal IT executives, the State Department has quietly launched a new cybersecurity division, according to Federal News Radio.
The Cyber and Technology Security directorate, which will fall under the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, aims to facilitate global diplomacy through cybersecurity programs and risk management technology, a spokeswoman told to Federal News Radio.
"DS/CTS provides an array of cybersecurity services across the department, and maintains a strong working relationship with other federal agencies on a number of operational security matters," she explained.
Previously, the State CIO's office and the Bureau of Diplomatic Security shared these cybersecurity responsibilities, an unnamed official told Federal News Radio. The CTS will realign the organization to put resources under one group.
According to the spokeswoman, Lonnie Price will serve as interim director for the CTS directorate. He has been with the State Department since 1987.
