Technology startup Nebula Genomics has enhanced its blockchain technology with improved privacy settings for DNA sequencing, according to the Cointelegraph.
The platform allows patients to stay anonymous while putting their genetic testing information on the blockchain. Patients using the blockchain do not have to share personal data, including names, addresses or credit card numbers.
Nebula clients can then purchase the whole-genome sequencing through cryptocurrency transactions. If patients do not use digital currencies, the company recommends using a prepaid credit card.
"Most importantly, enabling individuals to remain anonymous would eliminate the dependence on data de-identification by personal genomics companies prior to data sharing with researchers," a Sept. 19 statement from Nebula said.
