Stanford Medicine and the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, both based in Palo Alto, Calif., have created a new initiative that will focus on the ethical and safety issues surrounding healthcare artificial intelligence.
The initiative, dubbed Responsible AI for Safe and Equitable Health, or RAISE-Health, will create a platform that advocates for responsible AI in health and medicine; create a framework for ethical standards and safeguards for AI; and convene groups of innovators, experts and decision-makers on AI, according to a June 14 press release from Stanford.
The aim of the initiative is to enhance clinical care outcomes by integrating "responsible" AI; accelerate research in the area; and educate patients, providers and researchers on how to navigate AI advances.
"AI has the potential to impact every aspect of health and medicine," Lloyd Minor, MD, Stanford School of Medicine dean, said. "We have to act with urgency to ensure that this technology advances in line with the interests of everyone, from the research bench to the patient bedside and beyond."
