National Health IT Coordinator Farzad Mostashari, MD, said the requirements around stage 2 of meaningful use will "look a lot like" what the Health IT Policy Committee has already laid out, according to a Government Health IT report.
Meaningful use rules of electronic health records are expected to come out at the end of this year or early 2012, will accept public comments and will be finalized next summer, the report said.
While the delaying stage 2 of meaningful use by one year until 2014 has been proposed, Dr. Mostashari said there shouldn't be "disincentive for those organizations who want to be meaningful users in 2011." However, "those who do go in 2011, like everybody else, should have a year or more after the final rule comes out before they have to attest for stage 2," the report said.
