St. Louis Children's Hospital discontinued its nurse answering service Thursday due to reduced demand, according to a report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
In the late 90s, nurses fielded about 90,000 calls a year, giving parents advice about their sick children. This number fell to about 12,000 calls in 2014, as more parents turn to mobile apps or directly contact pediatricians, according to the report.
The hotline will still provide general information on the hospital, pediatricians and community education program enrollment, according to the report.
