Memphis, Tenn.-based St. Jude Children's Research Hospital received a Microsoft Health Innovation Award for its cloud-based data sharing platform for pediatric cancers.
Five notes:
1. St. Jude Cloud was developed through a partnership between St. Jude, Microsoft and cloud-based genome informatics platform DNAnexus.
2. Designed to provide researchers with a public repository of pediatric cancer genomics data, St. Jude Cloud accelerates data mining, analysis and visualization capabilities.
3. Scientists can explore more than 5,000 whole-genome, whole-exome and 1,200 RNA-Seq datasets from more than 5,000 pediatric cancer patients and survivors on the platform, which St. Jude plans to add 10,000 more sequences to.
"We have gotten off to a strong start and are seeing promising responses among our peer institutions who have accessed St. Jude Cloud," Keith Perry, senior vice president and CIO at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, said in a press release. "We will keep building upon this foundation and continue to use this technology to support the St. Jude mission of advancing cures for pediatric life-threatening diseases."
4. Since its launch in April 2018, more than 800 people from 400 institutions have registered with St. Jude Cloud.
