Huron (S.D.) Regional Medical Center will launch a 12-week information technology apprenticeship program aimed at teaching the ins and outs of healthcare IT.
Here are three things to know about the healthcare IT apprenticeship program, according to a Jan. 20 release from Huron:
- Individuals selected to be a part of the apprenticeship program will complete four cycles of paid on-the-job training within the health system's information systems department.
- The individuals will work alongside current employees learning how to troubleshoot computer problems, network protocols, and how to maintain and operate an EHR system, as well as learn the aspects of reporting, analyzing data and identifying trends.
- Individuals will spend approximately three months in each specialized area before rotating to another.
The program was made possible through a $10,000 grant from the state's Department of Labor and Regulation, according to the health system.
