"Smart" Insurance Card Startup Raises Additional $4M, Has Payer Pilots in Works

LifeNexus, the company behind the iChip technology, has raised an additional $4 million and has pilot programs in the works with four payers, according to a MobiHealthNews report.

Launched in June, iChip-enabled insurance codes allow providers to access not only a patient's insurance information, but health record as well. The health information, including medical history, medications, allergies and advance care directives, can be viewed, downloaded or exported into the provider's electronic health record system.

"What we're doing is putting a health information exchange on a card, giving every consumer their own personalized HIE that makes their care better and easier for them," said CEO David Strand in the MobiHealthNews report

LifeNexus has pilot programs either scheduled or underway with three Blue Cross Blue Shield payers and one Medicaid payer, according to the report.
