Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) has reintroduced legislation that would extend federal electronic health record incentive eligibility to behavioral health, mental health and substance abuse treatment providers.
The current bill, S. 1517, would expand the types of providers eligible for Medicare EHR incentives to include licensed psychologists, licensed clinical social workers and psychiatric hospitals as well as expand eligibility for Medicaid meaningful use incentive payments to include community mental health centers, mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities, psychiatric hospitals, licensed psychologists and licensed clinical social workers.
Sen. Whitehouse had previously introduced a version of the bill in 2010.
