San Diego Health Connect, formerly the San Diego Regional Health Information Exchange, has announced both its new name and the addition of San Diego-based providers Scripps Health and Sharp Healthcare to its network.
San Diego Health Connect began as a federally funded Beacon Community project. Since government funding expired at the end of September, the organization has transitioned into a community-supported entity.
The addition of Scripps and Sharp increases the number of patients covered by the HIE from 800,000 to 1.2 million.
"The commitments from Scripps and Sharp to collaborate in delivering healthcare services go a long way toward demonstrating that San Diego Health Connect has advanced successfully from a federally-funded, university-based initiative to a self-sustaining, community-funded not-for-profit organization with a greater reach," Daniel J. Chavez, executive director of San Diego Health Connect, said in a news release.
