On Wednesday, Samsung announced plans to increase its focus on mobile health, including the future development of apps and wearable devices and sensors, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.
To realize its vision, Samsung will bring in outside developers and firms that specialize in mHealth, according to the report. "This is a big enough challenge — we cannot do it alone, we have to do it with partners," Young Sohn, president and CSO for Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions, announced during Wednesday's presentation, according to the report.
The new devices and sensors will all run on a Samsung platform, which will be open in order to be compatible with devices and apps from other vendors, according to the report. Samsung officials said the platform's application development interface will be made available to outside developers by the end of the year.
