Samsung Electronics entered into an agreement with Seoul, South Korea-based Gangnam Severance Hospital to develop a virtual reality tool to diagnose mental health conditions, according to ZDNet.
Under the agreement, the two organizations will work alongside FNI, a virtual reality content maker, to create psychological assessments and cognitive behavior therapies for suicide prevention. Their goal is to release a commercialized product for hospitals, dementia centers and schools in 2018.
To develop the programs, the organizations will use Samsung's Gear VR headset and S3 smartwatch, FNI's VR content development technology and Gangnam Severance Hospital's medical data. The programs will also involve Samsung's artificial intelligence virtual assistant, called Bixby.
