Robotic AI system helps stroke patients recover at Tennessee hospital

Germantown, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Hospital installed a new robotic system that helps stroke patients regain strength, coordination and control, WMC, an NBC affiliate, reports.

The bionic robot arm, which is designed by Bionik Laboratories, helps increase movement of patients who have a neurological condition or injury. With the technology, a patient can complete up to 1,000 movements an hour, an increase from the average 50 movements per hour that patients perform without it, according to the report.

"Moving from 50 movements an hour to 1,000, that higher frequency of simple repetition, helps a patient heal faster and better." Bionik Laboratories CEO Eric Dusseux, MD, told WMC.

The robot's artificial intelligence technology also maintains patients' progress and can print reports directly from its system.
