Becker's Hospital Review is excited to highlight the following three rising health IT and innovation leaders.
Sarah Hagovsky became the CIO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center Information Technology in 2018, seven years after joining the health system as director of human resources systems. She oversees a 300-plus person team and runs the infrastructure for VUMC, a 24,000-employee enterprise.
Ms. Hagovsky believes IT should be as innovative as the health system's clinical services, research and education, and seamlessly integrate with individual operational needs. Her teams ensure the health system's expanding territory operates well and supports the advanced technology needs to break new ground in bioinformatics, vaccine and clinical research.
The health system is also expanding its digital touchpoints and Ms. Hagovsky's team is responsible for laying the infrastructure critical to delivering virtual care. She is always looking for new ways to improve systems across VUMC and has led her team through projects including a successful Epic upgrade, an enterprisewide migration to Office365 and the creation of a mobile device management program.
Ms. Hagovsky is a member of Women in Technology in Tennessee and Nashville Technology Council, and has a passion for bringing more women and diversity into IT.
Anne Wellington is the managing director of Cedars-Sinai Accelerator, an accelerator program with the goal of jump-starting innovation within the health system. The accelerator has had 47 external startups participate in its five accelerator classes since 2016. Ms. Wellington provides expertise and guidance to the early stage medtech and digital health companies that participate in the program.
"We wanted to make sure we were bringing innovation into our health system and helping the companies grow so they could expand beyond Cedars-Sinai," said Ms. Wellington, in an interview with Becker's. "We do this in a way that is supportive of early stage companies but also makes sure we aren't taking on too much risk. We are comfortable and confident that the technology will work the way it's expected to before making a larger investment. Through the program, company leaders are mentored by the people who would use their product and make purchasing decisions. That helps us develop a good understanding of whether this is a collaboration that we would pursue further."
Ms. Wellington was introduced to the accelerator program as entrepreneur-in-residence and she has previous experience as the chief product officer and founding team member of Stanson Health. While at Stanson, Ms. Wellington focused her energy on developing an EMR-integrated patient-specific clinical decision support and analytics product.
Throughout her career, Ms. Wellington has been process-oriented and provided product strategy expertise to companies. Her career began at Epic where she supported technical implementation of inpatient orders and clinical documentation products.
