Providers are well aware of the need for big data and analytics solutions, however the market for such tools is still relatively immature, according to a report from Chilmark Research.
The market for analytics solutions is not small — more than 100 vendors currently offer big data tools and products. However, few EHR vendors currently have data analytics products capable of delivering long-term benefits, though many are quickly building out their solutions, according to the report.
The current lack of enterprise solutions for big data has been pushing providers to best-of-breed solutions. "It is currently a best-of-breed market, with providers adapting vendor solutions to meet a particular need created by a specific payment contract," according to the report.
The report suggests in addition to improving their analytics solutions, big EHR vendors may acquire the best-of-breed solutions that are currently capturing providers' attention and IT budgets.
