Physician use of e-prescribing rose 75 percent in 2011, with 36 percent of prescriptions routed electronically compared to 22 percent in 2010, according to the most recent National Progress Report on E-Prescribing and Interoperable Healthcare.
Additional findings from the study include:
• In 2011, 570 million prescriptions were routed electronically compared to 326 million in 2010;
• Electronic prescriptions showed a 10 percent increase in patient first-fill medication adherence compared to paper, phoned and faxed prescriptions.
