Protenus will launch an initiative to expand its healthcare analytics platform, which currently targets patient privacy monitoring.
The Baltimore-based company leverages advanced analytics and artificial intelligence to identify anomalous behaviors within a hospital's IT systems. The goal is to detect when an individual inappropriately accesses patient data or engages in malicious activity.
Robert Lord, co-founder and president of Protenus, will lead an interdisciplinary team of data scientists, engineers and business professionals to evaluate how the same analytics tools can be used to address separate healthcare challenges, such as detecting employee theft of prescription opiates.
"Protenus is, and has always been, committed to building and protecting trust in healthcare, and we see this new initiative as a natural extension of our work," Mr. Lord said.
