Philips Healthcare has partnered with Accenture to develop a way to keep a patient's vital signs within a surgeon's line of sight using Google Glass, according to a Boston Business Journal report.
The project seeks to connect Google Glass with Philips' patient monitoring systems to provide real-time information on a patient's vitals without requiring the surgeon to look away from the patient. The technology could also allow a physician to monitor the patient's vitals remotely, or allow the surgeon to consult with offsite physicians, according to the report.
"We live in a world where being nimble is key and industry-altering ideas need to be converted to practical solutions that people can use," Michael Mancuso, CEO of patient care and clinical informatics at Philips Healthcare, said in the report. "This research explores how doctors can achieve better access to the right information at the right time so they can focus on more efficient and effective patient care. It's a first step in researching how existing technologies can be applied to improve the quality of life of patients."
