Pharmacist health IT collaborative releases seven standards documents

An industry group that advocates for pharmacist health IT use released seven new guidance documents with information and standards for pharmacists to use technology.

The Pharmacy HIT Collaborative, a sub-group of the American Pharmacists Association, released the documents to inform pharmacists of how to electronically document patient care services and exchange information, according to the APA's website.

The documents include "Integrating Pharmacists into Health Information Exchanges," "Documenting Comprehensive Medication Management in Team-Based Models Using SNOMED CT Codes," "Workflow of Pharmacist Clinical Documentation Process in Pharmacy Practice Settings," "Electronic Health Record Certification: Making the Pharmacists' Case to System Vendors," "Case Study Example: Pharmacists Working in Collaboration with Physicians and Other Health Care Professionals" and "System Vendor Checklist for Pharmacist Clinical Documentation Workflow."

The collaborative also updated its health IT roadmap document, a strategic plan through 2017, to align more closely with the ONC's goals. The APA's document outlines three goals related to access, connectivity and quality, according to the APA.
