Patient portal enrollment at Virginia Mason tops 100,000 users

Enrollment for the patient portal at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle has surpassed 100,000 users.

The portal, powered by Cerner and launched in 2012, provides patients with access to their lab results, physician clinical notes and medical lists, and allows them to request appointments, self-schedule particular types appointments, renew prescriptions and exchange emails with providers, according to a news release.

Virginia Mason recently received recognition at the Cerner Health Conference for having a nearly 67 percent patient cohort enrollment in the portal. The nationwide average is 30 percent, according to the news release.

"Information technology touches every part of the patient experience, from scheduling appointments to administering medications," said Bill Poppy, senior vice president and CTO at Virginia Mason. "As an organization, we are proud to be among the leaders in using IT solutions to connect with our patients."
