Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas has more than 1,300 unfilled positions, ranging from nurse practitioners, pharmacists, social workers, physical therapists and support personnel, according to a Dallas Morning News report.
Hospital officials say the reasons for so many departures vary, from family relocation to new opportunities in other communities. Part of the departures were also involuntary as part of ongoing efforts to correct patient safety deficiencies that were discovered last year.
In response, the hospital board approved a $250,000 recruiting plan that includes contracting third-party companies to search and recruit individuals for these vacancies. After the companies complete background checks on candidates, hospital managers would conduct interviews and complete the hiring process.
The hospital will also pay bonuses, ranging from $500 to $1,500, to current employees who refer qualified individuals for "hard to fill" positions, such as registered nurses.
