One-third (35 percent) of healthcare organizations supplies at least one app for patient or consumer use, according to HIMSS Third Annual Mobile Technology Survey.
Below are the most common uses for organizations' consumer-facing apps (just under half of respondents reported offering more than one app):
- Monitoring chronic conditions: 53 percent
- Monitoring physical activity: 39 percent
- Monitoring nutrition intake: 36 percent
- Accessing patient portal: 19 percent
Survey results were based on responses from 170 health IT executives from a variety of healthcare organizations. About two-thirds of respondents work for hospitals or integrated delivery systems, and 14 percent for ambulatory facilities or physician practices.
