The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology will establish a new system of records and datasets — the "ONC Health IT Dashboard" — to improve the effectiveness of federally issued health IT grants, according to a recent announcement (pdf) in the Federal Register.
The datasets will allow the ONC to do four main things: evaluate the state of health IT implementation by hospitals and other parties who have or could receive electronic health record assistance from the ONC, compare progress reports to validate claims, share evaluations with those that received grants and make aggregate data available on the ONC's website.
The system will not contain information about patients, according to the notice. Only ONC partners and grantees will have access to data regarding the health IT grants.
