ONC Posts FAQs to Answer Healthcare Providers' Most Asked Questions About Meaningful Use

The Office of the National Coordinator has posted a section of frequently asked questions to help healthcare providers better understand and meet meaningful use requirements.

The FAQ section outlines answers to 20 questions about a wide range of topics related to meaningful use, including reporting measures and electronic health records certification. Several of the questions include the following:

•    If my EHR technology is capable of submitting batch files to an immunization registry using the adopted standards, is that sufficient for demonstrating compliance with the certification criterion specified at 45 CFR 170.203(k)?

•    I plan on sending/transferring meaningful use quality reporting data from my EHR technology to my "data warehouse" and have the data warehouse submit/report our data to CMS. Does my data warehouse need to be certified?

•    If an EHR Module addresses multiple certification criteria (thus providing multiple capabilities), does it need to be tested and certified to the applicable privacy and security certification criteria as a whole or for each capability?
