A pilot program recently conducted by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, in conjunction with the University of Texas at Austin and Jericho Systems, has demonstrated the successful integration of patient control metrics into health information exchanges.
The HIE simulated in the pilot program was able to automatically fetch and apply patient consent directives to determine whether, and to whom, a record could be released. A record of any transmission was then automatically available to the patient for review.
