ONC Finalizes 2014 Test Methods for EHR Certification

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT has finalized and formally approved the 2014 Edition Test Method for Electronic Health Record Certification following a comprehensive public review and comment process.

Test procedures, test data and test tools will now be available to help testing laboratories and certification bodies test and certify EHR systems under ONC's HIT Certification Program.

ONC released the first wave of draft test procedures in September and subsequent waves were released every few weeks until late November. ONC went through at least six waves of draft procedures.

Correction: A previous version of this article reported providers would be able to test and certify EHR systems. Rather, te Test Methods are to be used by testing laboratories and certification bodies to evaluate the conformance and functionality of EHRs.
