ONC: e-Prescribing Has Increased Tenfold Since 2008

In 2008, just 7 percent of physicians in the U.S. used e-prescribing software. Now, about 70 percent do, according to a new report from the ONC.

The report links this burst in adoption to the passage of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008, which offers financial incentives for e-prescribing, and the e-prescribing requirement of the meaningful use program.

Additionally, the percent of community pharmacies able to accept e-prescriptions increased from 76 percent in 2008 to 96 percent in 2014.
