The Ohio Senate has passed HB 123, which requires Medicaid to cover telehealth services offered by medical facilities. Gov. John Kasich (R) is expected to sign the bill into law.
"I am glad to see that my colleagues in the Senate continued the good work that was done by the House," said Rep. Anne Gonzales (R), one of the bill's original sponsors, in a news release. "This legislation is a great step in helping cut healthcare costs in our Medicaid system and will allow patients in rural areas better access to specialists."
Ohio joins several other states currently expanding telehealth reimbursement opportunities through legislation, including Maryland, Hawaii, New Jersey and Indiana.
