Ohio is the first state in the country to successfully communicate health information between states using direct secure messaging through its statewide health information exchange, according to an Ohio Health Information Partnership news release.
On Dec. 1, the statewide HIE, CliniSync, connected with the Mississippi Health Information Network to allow physicians in Lima, Ohio and Biloxi, Miss., to share electronic health records with each other. The exchange of information was facilitated by the Direct Project, a set of standards, policies and services developed by the Office of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology to securely communicate health information.
ONC granted Ohio $14.8 million for its HIE, and the Ohio Health Information Partnership now has 26 contracts with hospitals and health systems and provides services for more than 5,900 physicians and eligible professionals.
