New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System launched Ochsner Anywhere Care, a direct-to-consumer telehealth platform for urgent care visits.
The telehealth platform, developed under a partnership with American Well, connects patients with primary care providers for on-demand video visits via smartphone, tablet or computer. The 24/7 service is meant to help patients receive medical advice and treatment for low-acuity conditions, such as sore throats, stomach aches or fevers.
Physicians can diagnose conditions and prescribe medications during the video visits. If follow-up care is needed, they can also refer patients to an Ochsner Health System physician.
After a video visit, the remote provider will create an after-visit summary, which is added to the patient's medical record in Ochsner Health System's Epic EHR.
Ochsner Health System plans to expand the direct-to-consumer telehealth service into additional medical specialties over time.
